UNDERSTANDING YOUR INCOME PROTECTION

Corsair provides Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance along with Long-Term Disability through Guardian. You do not have to enroll to receive this coverage.

 

If you choose to purchase additional Voluntary Life Insurance, you also receive WillPrep and estate planning services through Guardian. 

Basic Life and ADD
THIS BENEFIT IS PROVIDED AUTOMATICALLY BY CORSAIR AT NO COST TO YOU.

​Corsair provides full-time employees with basic life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance through Guardian. Life and AD&D insurance is designed to provide protection for you and your family against loss of income due to death. You are automatically enrolled in basic life and AD&D and Corsair pays 100% of the cost of this coverage. 

​

  • Salaried employees: 2x base annual earnings up to $500,000

  • All other employees: 1x base annual earnings up to $100,000

 

*Basic life and AD&D benefits are reduced by 35% at age 65 and 50% at age 70.

Voluntary Life and AD&D
YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL LIFE AND AD&D INSURANCE FOR YOURSELF, YOUR SPOUSE/DOMESTIC PARTNER, AND YOUR CHILD(REN) THROUGH GUARDIAN.

​If you need additional Life insurance to meet your financial needs, you can purchase Voluntary Life and AD&D insurance through after-tax payroll deductions for yourself, your spouse and your child(ren). If you wish to increase your voluntary life insurance after your initial eligibility you will be required to submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI) for review and approval by Guardian. 

 

How much your family may need depends on your personal situation (other income, monthly expenses, short and long-term debt such as credit card or mortgage expenses, etc.). You are responsible for the entire cost of this benefit.

As an added benefit, if you enroll in a voluntary term life plan, you also gain access to WillPrep Services provided by Uprise Health in partnership with Guardian. Services include online planning documents, access to telephonic or in person consultation with an estate planning lawyer, and discounted estate planning packages. Learn more about this perk:

YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE VOLUNTARY SHORT-TERM DISABILITY COVERAGE. PREMIUMS ARE PAID 100% BY THE EMPLOYEE.

Short-term disability is an income replacement benefit that provides a percentage of pre-disability earnings on a weekly basis if you are out of work on a disability claim. Without disability coverage, you and your family may struggle to get by if you miss work due to an injury or illness. 

​

Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is required if you previously declined coverage and decide to enroll for coverage after the initial new hire enrollment period.

  • This is the amount that is paid to you while on short-term disability

  • Benefits are non-taxable

  • The period of time after you are disabled until you can start receiving benefits

WAITING PERIOD 7 DAYS
PLAN PAYS 66.7% OF YOUR BASIC EARNINGS 
  • This is the maximum disability payment that Guardian would issue in a single week

THE MAXIMUM WEEKLY BENEFIT OF $1,000
THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT PERIOD
  • As long as you remain disabled, payments will continue to be issued for a maximum of 12 weeks

Long-Term Disability
THIS BENEFIT IS PROVIDED AUTOMATICALLY BY CORSAIR. ​​

In the event you become disabled from an injury or sickness, disability income benefits will provide a partial replacement of lost income. Corsair provides all benefit-eligible employees with Long-Term Disability income benefits through Guardian. 

 

Corsair is offers you the choice of how you would like to receive your LTD benefit should you need to make a claim.

 

  • Employer Paid (Default) – If you go on disability leave, you’ll have to pay taxes on your disability insurance payout.

  • ​Employee Paid – You pay the premium so if you go on disability leave, you’ll receive the full benefit. Keep in mind, the premium amount is smaller compared to the potential taxes paid at claim time. The potential tax savings for all employees are tremendous.​

​

Your tax choice is irrevocable for the entire plan year and cannot be changed until next Open Enrollment.​

​

WAITING PERIOD
90 DAYS​​
  • If you HAVE NOT elected Voluntary Short-Term Disability, payments to you will begin 90 days after you submit the claims to Guardian and it is approved

  • If you HAVE elected Voluntary Short-Term Disability, Long Term Disability will begin once that benefit period has ended

PLAN PAYS 60% OF YOUR BASIC EARNINGS 
  • This is the amount that is paid to you while on disability, your basic earnings are defined as monthly earnings excluding bonuses, commissions, expense accounts, and any other extra compensation.

THE MAXIMUM MONTHLY BENEFIT IS $10,000
  • This is the maximum disability payment that Guardian would issue in a single month

    ​

THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT PERIOD
  • As long as you remain disabled, payments will continue to be issued to you until you reach age 65 or Social Security Normal Retirement Age
